Sunday Snippet - Little Beginnings 24/05/2015 #Romance #amwriting

~~~
LITTLE BEGINNINGS
Jeri lives in Hobart where she owns a gallery. Since her divorce, many years ago, she's finally ready to "be" with a man again. But finding the right one seems to be harder than she thought.
~~~
 “If I had known the blind date was you, I’d probably would’ve said no, as well. See—” she looked away before meeting his gaze again. “By all means, I am not old. But… I am at an age where I want to be selfish, have a man who is charming, spoils me, takes me out for dinner, travels with me—”
“I get the gist Jeri.”
She let out a soft laugh. “You, on the other hand, strike me as a man who’s still looking for that special someone.”
He raised his brow.
“The woman you can start a family with.”
“I ask you out for a date and you think family?”
“No, I’m thinking, don’t waste your time on me.”
Frustration grew within him and he was afraid to lose her without ever having had her.
“Why can’t I make that decision for myself? What if you’re wrong? What if I hate kids?”

 I do appreciate each single one of them!

  1. I like his response. She does need to let him make that decision once she's told him what she wants. Great snippet, Iris. :)

  2. Love his response. I also see her point, too. Why waste your time if you're not looking for the same thing in a relationship. However, she should let him decide what he wants and doesn't want. :)

    1. They both have their reasons and once we find out hers, it'll all make more sense :-) Thanks Karen.

  3. Hum, is she going to play mummy on him just because she is older, that doesn't sound really good.

    1. Not really, but something happened in her past that makes a being careful. Thanks Linda.

  4. They've both made unfair assumptions, here. You have a great talent for showing all sides of a relationship, Iris, and making us sympathize with both characters (at least, after Ely redeemed himself. :) ).

  5. I see her point but I see his too - she's making a lot of self defensive assumptions! Really enjoying this story!

  7. I love that he now seems determined to date her -- and that she seems to be equally determined to keep him at arm's length. Waiting to see if she relents and gives him a chance.

  8. Well, she could have been a little less condescending, but at least she's not trying to lead him on. And well, now that he knows what's up... he'd best be as honest with her and himself as he can be.

  9. She's not leading him on. Now it's up to him to decide what he wants to do.

  10. That kinda would have defeated the idea of a blind date, wouldn't it?
    This is a fun exchange between your characters.
