Tuesday Tales - NASTY - Where #Authors #Write to a #prompt ~ #romance #love

Welcome to Tuesday ... Welcome to Tuesday Tales ...

I continue with  Rachel's story. I introduced her in "I think I love you", the third book in the "Australian Sports Stars Series". She's Sarah's sister.
When Rachel opens the door and finds the police standing in front of her door, she's scared of a repeat of the day she was dragged to the police station. Yet, the two officers only want information and ask her to stop by later that day. Worried, she calls Oliver, a good friend, but instead gets Matiu Afoa on the phone. Matiu is Oliver's Kiwi friend staying with him for a week. He's in Melbourne for a meeting.

Today's prompt is: NASTY.

Mat emptied his cup of coffee with one long sip before he placed it on the table. “Are you still going ahead with the contract?”
He was referring to the nasty incident only a week earlier with a helicopter crash in the mountains. It’d been a big blow for the small communities of Fox and Franz Josef Glacier.
Karen nodded. “Terrible. Just terrible.” She paused a moment and leaned back into her chair. “Yes, we’d like to go ahead with the contract. We assume by the time you’ve set up the business in Queenstown, it will be out of the news.”
Mat’s stomach squeezed. How he hated this side of business. If this hadn’t meant a big opportunity for him and Adam, he’d have cancelled the whole meeting. Bugger the money. But he wanted to move back to Queenstown and the contract would give him the finances to set up an office in his hometown.
He gave a slow nod. “Okay. Let’s talk figures.”
After two hours of discussing, arguing, and checking numbers, he’d finally come to an agreement with Karen on their first draft. It was now up to their lawyers to settle on the nitty gritty.
Mat walked back to his car, tired and worn out. Too much talking. How much he hated the business side of things. He loved flying, loved being up in the air, the sensation of no ties, and gazing at the wonders Mother Nature had to offer.
John had too. But he’d paid a high price for his love.

  1. Ugh, I'm with Mat. Hate talking out the nitty gritty. Just let me get to my love. Glad they were able to work out a deal.

  2. Well done, Iris. Last June, a week after we'd taken a float plane ride in Alaska, a plane crashed exactly where we'd been. The tragedy overshadowed the joy I'd felt in the air. I'd been afraid to go up in such a small plane, but once up there, it was magnificent. Now, I'm not sure I'll have the nerve to repeat the process. Hate hamepring out details and minutia. Well done.

    1. it's scary isn't it. My husband and the girls did the helicopter ride in NZ only a few weeks ago ... no wonder i was relieved when i had them back in my arms. Thanks Susanne.

  3. Nice snippet, moving the story forward. I've got a fear of heights, so I'd not be riding with him.

  4. Like all of us, he has to work on the nitty gritty sometimes. I'm glad he gets to enjoy his love of flying too though. Great job.
