Tuesday Tales - GRAB ~ Where #Authors #Write to a #Prompt ~ #Tuesdaybookblog #Books

Welcome to Tuesday ... Welcome to Tuesday Tales ...

I continue with  Rachel's story. I introduced her in "I think I love you", the third book in the "Australian Sports Stars Series". She's Sarah's sister.
When Rachel opens the door and finds the police standing in front of her door, she's scared of a repeat of the day she was dragged to the police station. Yet, the two officers only want information and ask her to stop by later that day. Worried, she calls Oliver, a good friend, but instead gets Matiu Afoa on the phone. Matiu is Oliver's Kiwi friend staying with him for a week. He's in Melbourne for a meeting.

Today's prompt is GRAB

She held his stare most likely wanting to see his reaction to her news. And in all fairness, it wasn't at all what he’d expected. Possibly — but then again he didn't know what he'd expected either, yet the mention of the word police threw him a bit.
"You're not a suspect, are you? “ He asked with a little jest in his voice not believing that was the case.
Her gaze went past him now as the shook her head. He cupped her chin with both of his hands, tilting her head towards him to see her eyes. Sadness had taken over and he could've kicked himself for his curiosity.
He drew a deep breath. “Sorry.”
She shook her head. “No. Don’t be. You did nothing wrong.” With a slight lift of her shoulder, she added, “We dated a very brief period of time before it ended. His name kind of left a sour taste in my mouth so I’m still torn between not caring and feeling sorry for him.”
Mat grabbed his wallet from the back pocket of his pants and retrieved one of his business cards.
“My number’s on here. Promise me you’ll call me if you need to talk.”
Rachel took the card, her hesitation obvious. “I’m fine,” she replied with a slight smile.
“Promise me,” he insisted.
“Yes, dad,” she mocked him. “I promise I will call you if for any reasons I will need to talk to someone.”
“’Atta girl.”
“But first let me win the lotto, because this would be an overseas call.”
A frown creased his forehead. “Paka!”
“Excuse me?”
He looked at her, initially not sure what he’d said, when he remembered his bout of annoyance was made in Maori. “Sorry. I try not to swear in English.”
Letting out a soft laugh, she simply nodded.
“Call through, and I return the call,” he suggested.
“I will, but honestly, I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
With no more words, she slid behind the steering wheel, and he closed the door. She drove off, leaving him staring after her until she was completely out of sight. A few seconds later, he headed the opposite direction and started to walk back to Oliver’s house.
Slowly, and with a constant smile on his face.

THANK YOU

Advice is what we ask for when we already
know the answer, but wish we didn't.”

“Certainly, Mr. McCormack.”
He turned and walked towards the café. She followed him with her gaze and just
thinking of his long eyelashes and the stubbles covering his jaw-line gave her a shudder.
Emma took the phone and dialled room five-o-two. It took a while until Mrs. Gibbs
answered.
“Mrs. Gibbs, Emma from the reception here.”
“Well, dear, about time. Have you been successful with the babysitter?”
Reality check. She had forgotten about that. “No, but I will check with our
management, and I can help you out myself if that would suit you,” Emma lied and
slapped her forehead as soon as she had said it. What was it with this woman who made
her do or say things without a second thought?
There was a deep sigh at the other end of the line. “Well, young lady, I suppose I
have no other choice.” And she hung up.
Emma stared at the phone in utter astonishment and then dialled the room number
again.
“It’s Emma here, again,” she said with as much confidence as she could muster.
Mrs. Gibbs sighed. “Now what?”
“Mrs. Gibbs, my original call was primarily to inform you that Mr. McCormack is here,
and waiting for you in the hotel café.”
“Thank you, dear. I expect you upstairs at one o’clock.”
“Yes, ma’am.”

May I introduce: Sophia Whittemore "The Funnymann" @sophiawhitte

The FunnymanBy Sophia Whittemore

BLURB:
It isn't a laughing matter when Diana starts to see things in the mist which other people don’t: monsters, gods, and deadly shadows. Yet now she sees another thing, the world of the Impetus, a reality where humans are enslaved and the once-beautiful gods are actually tyrants. Diana must find a way to escape before the exiled king Fear, a vengeful murderer, hunts Diana down to get back something she's stolen from him. But will her growing feelings for the Prince Isak, the oddly sullen god of comedy, draw her into an all-out war?

EXCERPT:
"I am almost a king, Diana. My father would have to be dead for that to happen." I hung my head, moving farther from him as I realized that we had been positioned far too close for comfort. "I’m sorry for assuming. Losing him would be a terrible thing." "Don’t feel bad. He hasn’t visited me since I was a child." Isak turned back to the mirror, his lips so tight they were a line, a dark crease forming between his pale brows. "It’s been so long that even your great, great grandparents were nothing more than a vague idea then." "Immortality sounds wonderful." I stopped myself when I sensed the envy creeping into my words like a poison. "I’m sorry. I mean, with your father…" "No, don’t wish to be immortal, Diana." Now it was Isak’s turn to sound wistful. "Pray that death comes swifter, if anything." Silence fell like a heavy pall over our shoulders, but then Isak soldiered on. "And about my father, well…somebody has to fight off Fear in the world of men. Somebody has to keep you humans from killing each other, from hurting so much that you can’t feel any other wonderful thing." "To laugh?" "To love, to live, to feel so much that your world keeps spinning, faster and faster, in that wonderful, chaotic mess of humanity that you’d so hastily give up. Immortality is overrated. It is nothing but the ability to live through it all and not experience a single thing, to eat everything without tasting it at all." Isak’s eyes shone with a desperate need. He wanted, more than anything it seemed, to be like me, when all I wanted was to be like him. "But it must be a great thing, to walk on the stars." "It isn’t, not when shadows threaten you from below. One misstep and we turn into the greatest monsters humanity has ever seen." "What, like the shadows that attacked us?" I shuddered when I thought of those writhing, clicking bodies, so ready to consume me, body and soul, till I was nothing left but a beating heart. "No, those are just byproducts of the real monsters, like famine, disease…" "Fear." Isak’s eyes shifted over to mine quickly. "What did you say?"

Happy "Book Hook" Day
May I 'hook' you on
"Let Me Love You"?

"Let Me Love You" is set in Melbourne, in the wonderful country of Australia.

I hope you get hooked by this Snippet

Today's hook
She took a couple of deep breaths to calm herself as she held Oliver’s gaze.
“You okay?” he asked.
Taking another deep breath, she moved away from him and subconsciously kept looking for her keys. They just had to be in her bag, no doubt about it.
“Lost your keys?” he queried this time.
His deep voice was soothing and caring, and although everything inside her told her to relax, her inner restlessness was taking over. Shaking her head frantically, she replied quietly, “No. They’re somewhere in here.” While taking another step away from him, she added. “I’d appreciate if you would leave me be.”
He cocked an eyebrow, but she didn’t care whether he was offended or not, or whether he even understood. All she cared about was getting away from him and into the car as soon as possible. When he pointed towards her jacket pocket, panic rose within her again. The car was right behind her and there was no way to get further away from him.
“Cupcake, you need to relax. Are those your keys?”
Blurb:
Oliver Dempsey, pitcher for a Melbourne baseball club, loves the women, and they love him…
But he keeps them at an arm’s length, and when he meets Tamara, he’s unprepared for the attraction he feels for her. Told by his coach that she’s off limits, only draws him in more.
Tamara Amis moved to Melbourne to find some distance between her past and herself…
With the help of her uncle, the coach of a Melbourne baseball club, she quickly finds a job, and a place to live. Yet, one meeting with the handsome pitcher stirs unexpected emotions that threaten to overwhelm her.
It’s Oliver’s injury that brings them together, but as they find out about each other’s pasts, how can they be ready to share a future?

5 Stars
This is the first book I read by author. I really enjoyed this book. I will have to read book 1 in this series. You can read this as a standalone

4 Stars
Having enjoyed the first book in this series, I was more than happy to read Let Me Love You – but each book stands alone and you don't have to have read one to understand the other. Nor do you have to know baseball inside-out to follow the story!

Oliver and Tamara appear to be opposites in the way they live life – he outgoing, she nervy and insular after a recent tragedy. And yet both choose to keep people at arm's length and neither are looking for romantic involvement. The attraction they feel for each other is initially unwanted but ultimately can't be ignored.

When Oliver is injured, he must reevaluate his career and his attitude to relationships, just as Tamara must decide the best way to forge forward rebuilding her life.

This is an enjoyable romance exploring the way two people cope with loss and tragedy in different ways, with likeable secondary characters adding variety and humor.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
