Tuesday Tales - Picture Prompt ~ Where #Authors #Write to a #Prompt ~ #Reading

Welcome to Tuesday ... Welcome to Tuesday Tales ...

I continue with  Rachel's story. I introduced her in "I think I love you", the third book in the "Australian Sports Stars Series". She's Sarah's sister.
When Rachel opens the door and finds the police standing in front of her door, she's scared of a repeat of the day she was dragged to the police station. Yet, the two officers only want information and ask her to stop by later that day. Worried, she calls Oliver, a good friend, but instead gets Matiu Afoa on the phone. Matiu is Oliver's Kiwi friend staying with him for a week. He's in Melbourne for a meeting.

Today's prompt is a picture.

Mat cocked a brow not sure how to respond. “Should I even bother asking what this is about?” he finally asked.
“What is it with you using Oliver’s phones?”
A smile tugged at his lips. “I was worried about you and only wanted to check whether you’re all right?”
There was a moment of silence. “You need to forget that first question, okay?” she almost begged.
“Will do. I think if you share a pizza with me, it’ll make it easier to forget.”
Another moment of silence. This one was longer, though, and he wondered if he’d pushed it too far.
“Are you blackmailing me?”
He looked out the window and hoped the storm clouds would pass. “Nope, only hoping to meet you.”
“For all you know I could be a bitch. And ugly. And absolutely…absolutely…I could be gay.”
“I’d still like to have this pizza to make sure you’re okay,” he said just above a whisper, surprising himself by his own words, because truth be told, it wasn’t his thing to date bitchy women or ugly ones for that matter. As for the gay bit, he doubted that very much otherwise Oliver would’ve dropped a hint.
“No wonder the All Black’s just won the World Cup. Persistence seems to be part of your genes.”
“Oh Rachel. You like rugby?” he almost drooled.
“With a brother-in-law who used to play soccer in England and a best friend who coaches baseball I’m not allowed to like any other sport,” she explained with some cheeriness in her tone.
He loved the laughter in her voice. And even though there was still the reason why she’d been so upset earlier in the day, he was glad he was able to put a little smile in her voice.

~~~
INNOCENT TEARS will be re-released late-January.
It has enjoyed another full edit and an awesome new cover.
Here's another little snippet.
THANK YOU
~~~

Emma typed the name on the keyboard, and while she waited for the details, she smiled at the girl, and asked, “Holidays?”
Nadine’s face spread into a small smile, but it was enough to show she had her two top teeth missing.
“And I see the tooth fairy has been to see you recently.”
“Excuse me–” Mrs. Gibbs glanced at Emma’s name badge. “–Emma. Can we proceed with the check-in please?”
“My apologies, ma’am.” Emma read the details on the screen, made a few notes and turned around to activate the automated door card in the back office. All the while, she felt Mrs. Gibbs’ glare on her and instinctively pulled on her navy uniform skirt feeling slightly uncomfortable.

Thanks for all your comments,
I do appreciate each single one of them!

Amy just wanted to escape Ethan’s abusive ways. She never expected to find the place where she felt like she belonged, and she surely never thought she’d find a second chance at love…

When Amy Teake attempts to get as far away from her abusive boyfriend as her stash of money will take her, she ends up in Park’s Peak, eventually becoming entangled in a complicated emotional triangle with her boss’s brother and an obnoxious local police officer.

She knows Ethan will find her eventually, she just never expects to involve either Cole or Jeremy in her fight for freedom.

As Amy’s attraction to Cole deepens, and the lines between friendship and love with Jeremy become blurred, she finds herself divided between her fear of Ethan and her fear of hurting the two men who helped her remember how to live again.

Will Amy outrun her fears and find the happy ending she so desperately desires?

Perhaps, happy endings aren’t always as we expect them to be…

M. Lynne Cunning

M. Lynne Cunning has always wanted to be an author, but it wasn't until she discovered National Novel Writing Month and all the insanity that goes along with it that she began to truly realize her love for writing stories. While she doesn't limit herself to writing only specific genres, her first published novel is a Contemporary/Romantic Suspense. She also doesn't believe that the traditional typical "happily ever after" is always the way to go. You've been forewarned.

She is almost always reading or writing, but also enjoys spending time and traveling with her husband/best friend, Dennis, and is the proud dog-mom of a brindle boxer. She's also a too-far-gone coffee addict and a lifelong country music fan.

Author F&Qs
How did you get started writing?
I've always written. I had my first poem published when I was 11. I started my writing career with Jackie magazine, writing articles and photo stories.

Are you a Plotter or a Pantser?
It depends whether I'm writing to a commission or not. If I'm commissioned I have to plot as I have to send a synopsis and the first couple of chapters to my editor. If I'm not writing to a commission I work out the basic outline of my story then write 'by the seat of my pants.'

Are you most productive in the morning or evening?
Morning. Often I get out of bed and start writing straight away. I'm full of ideas in the morning.

Extract
Something caught her eye. A sphere of brilliant light was shooting down through the sky. She stared at it, butterflies of excitement fluttering in her stomach. It must be a shooting star. She could make a wish. Jumbled thoughts of the things she could wish for raced across her mind, but only one stood out. It always did. "I wish I could find my mother," she whispered.
The glowing star continued plunging, plummeting down towards the bushes just ahead of her. It wasn't a shooting star. It was a falling star! Aluna ran towards the bushes, eager to get a glimpse of this wonder. What would a star look like? Would she be able to take it back and show the others?
The star disappeared behind the bushes. Panting now, Aluna raced towards it, her feet barely touching the ground beneath her. Thankfully, she had always been nimble-footed. Many a time she had crept softly behind Sariah, the housekeeper, and had made her almost jump out of her skin. Once, Sariah had been so shocked she'd dropped the pie she'd just taken out of the oven.
Be quick but quiet, she told herself as she ran. Could you scare a star?
She was at the bush. She could still see the light glowing behind it, so bright it dazzled her. Using her hands to shield her eyes from the glow she peered around the bush.
The light was fading. Aluna moved her hands from her eyes so she could see better and pushed her hood back. Where was the star? The light flickered, then a shape started to form in it. She watched, transfixed as the shape turned into a girl about Aluna's age, slim with long hair tumbling over her shoulders. The girl stretched up her arms as if embracing the heavens. Aluna let out a gasp of astonishment and the girl spun around, her eyes widening with shock as they rested on Aluna.
For a moment they both stared at each other. The star girl's eyes locked with Aluna's, and a lightness filled her mind. It was as if the girl could read her mind, her soul. In a panic, Aluna tore her eyes away, grabbed her basket and fled, muttering the protection spell under her breath.
