May I introduce: Kristin Wallace "Marry Me"

2013…the year that changed my life

I started 2013 the same way I have every year…wondering if 2013 would be the year I finally became a published author. I was around 25 when I had the great epiphany that I wanted to be an author when I grew up. For the next few years I wrote and submitted… and got nowhere.

I ended up putting the writing dream aside to go back to school to study advertising copywriting. I worked for several years and at some point I started writing again. That’s when I had another “great epiphany”. One afternoon I was sitting at my computer, working on an outline for a new book, and I stopped. I realized I’d been doing this for 10 years and the urge to write hadn’t gone away. I knew it had to mean something. I knew I had to try again. I joined Romance Writers of America and my local chapter, Florida Romance Writers. I discovered that I knew nothing about writing. I started to learn, though.

I completed my first book, a contemporary inspirational romance originally called “Here Comes The Wedding Planner”. Then I rewrote it, taking it from a first person POV book to third person. It finaled in the RWA’s Golden Heart Contest in 2010. My agent sent it out to publishers…and it didn’t sell.

The book sat in my computer until this year when I decided to try again. In the ensuing years the entire publishing industry had undergone a seismic shift. The rise of ebook publishers & self-publishing had changed everything. Then in April I pitched the book to two editors on the Savvy Authors website. I got two requests for full manuscripts…and two offers!!! Yes, that’s right…TWO!!! I accepted the offer from Astraea Press for the book, which I renamed MARRY ME, the first in the Covington Falls Chronicles. MARRY ME released on October 24th.

In October, I also sold two more books in the series. ACTING UP and IMAGINE THAT will release in 2014.

2013…the year I was finally able to call myself a published author.

Amanda Dale is burdened with the responsibility of caring for her widowed sister—an invalid----and Ella’s two children—one a premature infant. But Amanda wants a husband and children of her own and despairs that God does not care about her plight. Schoolteacher Gil Gladney is handsome, intelligent, and God-fearing. He is drawn to Amanda, but feels he cannot propose marriage until he is able to purchase the ranch he has been saving for.

When Gil and his pupils discover the relics of an ancient culture among the ruins outside the village, Gil contacts an old college friend. The possibility of an archeological excavation excites the community of cash-strapped farmers, eager to earn extra money working on the site.

Gil is delighted when Nate Phillips comes to Aztec to take up the challenge. When a rabid skunk reels through the excavation site, threatening the lives of Amanda and her nephew Rex, Gil realizes that life is short and the possibility of true happiness can be fleeting.
