I am a big fan of Miss Blobel's work. I love her characters and get so into their lives and how that comes together and culminates in the end. I loved Flynn and his apprehension about having to be a new Dad to a child he had never met. Emma's involvement and her torment of having to chose the right man. Jack's dormant abusive behavior and Teresa indifference to Nadine, who by the way was a very endearing child. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Kudos to its author!!

"Innocent Tears" by Iris Blobel was a wonderful well written novel that once you start reading it will be hard to put down. Definitely the 'six year old girl' Nadine stole this novel for me in her first appearance in the read. "When six year old Nadine peers over the reception counter of a big city hotel and tells the receptionist,My mum's dead, the reader's attention is immediately gained." Nadine's grandparents had been taking care of her but now wanted to give her to her biological father, Flynn who was a business lawyer in Melbourne and didn't know of his daughters' existence. Be ready for a lots of drama to come from all of this situation. The characters Emma, Flynn, Nadine, the grandparents and Jack are all well developed and colorful , and really comes to life giving you a well written storyline. This author really keeps the reader guessing about the romance between Flynn and Emma and you will see how this love story is between a man and his daughter will finally blossom all in this good read. Would I recommend this read? YES!

IRIS BLOBEL

Iris Blobel was born and raised in Germany and only immigrated to Australia in the late 1990s. Having had the travel bug most of her life, Iris spent quite some time living in Scotland, London as well as Canada where she her husband. Her love for putting her stories onto paper has only emerged recently, but now her laptop is a constant companion.

Iris resides west of Melbourne with her husband and her two beautiful daughters.

Next to her job at a private school, she also presents a German Program at the local Community Radio.

“My Mum is dead.”

Somewhat startled by this statement, Emma peeked over the reception desk into beautiful green eyes that belonged to a cute little girl with brown curly hair and a freckled button nose. She couldn’t help but smile. There was something in the girl’s eyes that held a hint of mischief and curiosity, as well as some sadness, and Emma was drawn to her instantly.

“Nadine!”

The stern voice of an elderly woman approaching the reception caused Emma to flinch. The girl stiffened with eyes wide open.

“My apologies for that,” the woman said to Emma, though her expression didn’t actually reveal any signs of apologies. The woman’s face reflected a life of bitterness, the lines appearing deep and weathered.

Emma smiled. “No need to.”

An elderly man joined them, and after a brief nod of acknowledgment she asked, “May I help you?”

Damn, she had a gorgeous smile that made his stomach tighten. She didn’t offer more. After a brief, but silent moment, he offered her his hand. “Tyson.”
She ignored his hand. “Nice meeting you, Tyson.”
He chuckled. “This is where you tell me your name.”
She let out a sigh as she looked away from him. It was a fine line he was walking. He was well aware of it. More than anything else, he wanted to help her. It was in his nature. She was hurt, and it seemed she was alone as well.
“Apologies, I didn’t mean to come on to you. But I’ve never been good with going past a girl who cries.”
“Does that happen often?” she asked as she turned back to him.
“Actually, no.” He laughed. “Only with my little niece.”
A tiny smile appeared on her face. “How old is she?”
Raising an eyebrow, he asked, “My niece? Turned four just a few days ago.”
She stared at him as he waited for her next question. Yet, it never came.
“I’m kinda getting cold here,” he said after a long moment. “Could I invite you for a coffee or tea?”
“No, but thank you for the offer. And thank you for caring.”
“Will you be here again tomorrow?”
A small sigh escaped her lips, and she shrugged slightly.
“Not sure.” He nodded and stood.
“It’s Katie,” she said as she stood as well. Ty’s heart skipped a beat. “Nice meeting you, Katie.”

I really enjoyed this book. The main characters popped off the pages right from the start and the author sprinkled a fun and quirky set of secondary characters throughout.

“Mum had to take medicine which made her lose her hair, and then she went to hospital, but never came back home,” Nadine said while breaking up some biscuits into pieces for her dolls.

Emma’s heart sank within her. Inwardly annoyed with herself for being so nosy, she sighed. After all, it wasn’t any of her business. She stroked Nadine’s hair. “I’m sorry, sweetie. I didn’t mean

to upset you.”

The girl placed the glass of milk back onto the table, and with a weary smile she looked at Emma. “That’s okay,” she said quietly. “Would you like to see a photo of my mum?”

Emma tilted her head to the side. “I’d love to.”

Nadine hopped off the chair and as quickly as she had previously retrieved her bag with dolls out of the other room, she returned with a framed photo.

“That’s Mum and me on my birthday. I’m six!” Nadine beamed.

“She’s beautiful.”

“Grandma says she’s in heaven, but I know she’s with the rainbow fairies now.”

Emma smiled at that thought. “That’s the fairy with the boy who didn’t want to grow up, isn’t it?”

Nadine’s eyes opened wide. “No! That’s a tinker. Mum is now up in a rainbow and creates the beautiful colours in the sky.”

The girl held onto the frame tight, and it caused Emma’s chest to squeeze as she thought of her own mother. “How long are you staying here in Melbourne, Naddie?”

“Don’t know.” And while slowly taking the photo back into the other room, she whispered more to herself than Emma, “I probably won’t go back home again.” She stopped in the doorway

and wiped her face with the back of her hand. “I miss her so much,” she added quietly.

As soon as Emma hung up the phone to Jack, the sound of Nadine’s small steps grabbed her attention. The young girl stood in the door holding tightly to her doll. Her hair was in a mess, and her

cheeks red. Yawning wide, she came towards Emma – and Emma couldn’t help but smile.

“Hello Naddie.”

“Hello,” Nadine said with a sleepy voice, on the verge of another yawn. “Grandma gone?”

Emma picked her up and sat on the chair with the girl on her lap. “Your Grandma and Grandpa have gone to a meeting, but they told me you knew I was coming.”

Nadine beamed. “Yes.”

“I’m a bit new to this, so how about you tell me what you would like to do. Did you bring any other dolls?”

Nadine hopped off Emma’s lap. “Yes,” she said excitedly, while rushing into the bedroom. She came back with – what else! – her bag packed with dolls, and then emptied the contents onto the

floor in front of Emma.

“I see,” Emma laughed. “You brought a whole town.”

Nadine quickly involved Emma in her imaginary story, and Emma couldn’t help but adore the girl for coping so well with the loss of her mother. After ordering some biscuits and milk for

Nadine, they both sat down at the table and a corner of Emma’s mind wondered about the girl’s mother. She knew curiosity killed the cat, but asked anyway.

“Naddie, sweetie, what happened to your mum?” she asked carefully whilst having a bite of a biscuit. She watched Nadine cautiously, not wanting to upset the girl.

Emma’s shift was only starting in an hour’s time, and she was enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel’s café. Like most Mondays she had accepted a lift from Jack, who worked an extra hour Monday and Fridays to cover for a longer lunch when he was allowed to use the gym in the basement.

“Excuse me?”

Emma turned around and looked into Nadine’s beautiful eyes. “Good morning, Nadine. It was Nadine, wasn’t it?”

The girl’s face lit up. “Yes, but Mum always called me Naddie.”

“May I call you Naddie?”

Emma filled her glass with more orange juice, all the while studying the little girl out of the corner of her eye. Nadine held on to an oversized doll, which seemed to be dressed in the same outfit as Nadine – pink T-shirt imprinted with My beautiful Princess, a denim skirt with a princess on it surrounded by lots of pink hearts in all sizes, and pink shiny sandals. Her brown hair had been done up in a ponytail.

“Where are your grandparents, Naddie?”

“Still in the room. Talking on the phone. Grandmother is always on the phone,” Nadine added.

“Do you think you’re allowed to have a bit of breakfast with me?”

With excitement spreading across Nadine’s face, she nodded her head eagerly and sat down opposite Emma.

“I still can’t believe he played me so perfectly. He really acted like he cared. And the thing is, he could’ve had any woman closer to Melbourne. I mean, didn’t you see the photo of his ex-girlfriend? This is an eight-hour drive for sex. It doesn’t make sense, Teagan.”
When her friend didn’t respond, Katie turned to look at her. She seemed in deep thought, but finally replied, “I agree.”
“Did you see his picture in the paper? I mean, holy smokes, Teagan, any sane woman would nibble on him.”
Teagan laughed. “I’m getting all hot just listening to you.”
Katie joined her friend’s laugh, but pushed her on the shoulder. “Go away. You’re plain dirty!”
There was a moment of silence as they both sipped at their drinks before Teagan said, “What do you mean by ex-girlfriend?”
“What?”
“You said I should have a look at the photo of his ex-girlfriend,” Teagan clarified.
“The one in the newspaper.”
